CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Using Crystals to Connect with Nature
Getting out of the big city and taking restorative time in nature is a must to maintain our sanity, but did you know that getting in touch with nature can also heal your chakras and change your entire mindset?

Many of us have blocks in our lower chakras, and healing them can be an overwhelming process. However, by using crystals, you can make the most of your time in nature and restore feelings of safety, self-worth, motivation, creativity, and so much more!

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to best use crystal healing to fully engage and immerse yourself in nature. We’ll discuss how to cleanse your crystals with natural methods, which crystals to use to help you meet your true self in nature, and how you can use stones to reconnect with the world around you. Strengthening your root, sacral, and solar plexus chakras allows you to feel true to yourself, at ease and comfortable with your environment, self-assured in your decisions, and aligned with your true purpose. By learning how to use crystal healing while in nature, you can bring that natural high vibration home with you and maintain your connection to the natural world long after you’ve returned to city living.

Bountiful blessings that Bitter herbs bestow!
Did you know that there are bitter receptors throughout your body? And that they greatly outnumber the sweet and salty receptors? Our bitter tasting Plant allies benefit our bodies as well as our spirits.

I will introduce you to some of our bitter allies that grow all around us. We will learn how to prepare and incorporate simples as well as compounded bitter elixirs suited for specific issues, into our lifestyle.

Herbal Support for Stress & Anxiety

Acquaint yourself with some of the herbs that can help relieve stress and nourish the nervous system. You'll learn about stress triggers, the effects of stress on the body, and natural remedies to support your overall health well being. We'll talk about adaptogenic herbs as well as herbs that are sedative and nourishing to the nervous system, some of which will be growing right outside our door up in the Catskills!

Summer of Love Potion

Create your own love potion! Love potions aren’t just for Valentine’s Day, and they’re not for forcing someone to fall in love with you. Learn the real lowdown on these ancient herbal elixirs, including how they can help beat stress, make you happier , more beautiful, and experience more ecstatic intimacy. And who wouldn’t fall in love with you then! Aemen will walk us through her favorite Love Herbs, and then coach you as you make your very own personalized, delicious love potion. Then you get to bring it home, and ooh la la! The rest is up to you!

Pre-Solstice Ceremony & Sacred Fire
Join us in ceremony around the campfire as we prepare for the Summer Solstice. Together we will make use of the waning  Aquarius Moon on Saturday night to use our collective consciousness to release all that stands in the way of our personal and collective authentic expression. Together through sacred ceremony and guided meditation we will connect with our authentic selves and all that we are here to gift the world with. We will also dream up a liberated world using the potent faculty of active imagining.

We are agents of the Light, and as we merge the Light of our consciousness with the Source and each other, we generate a beam of Higher Consciousness that can lift us to new heights where liberty prevails!

Healing Plant Identification Walk and Hands-on Herbal Medicine Making
We'll enjoy a leisurely walk as we learn to recognize, identify and harvest some of the abundant healing plants in the area, many of which grow down in the city too. You'll have time to gather plants that resonate with you and afterwards, we'll return to the house for herbal medicine making! You'll have the option to make either an herbal vinegar or tincture, or both if time permits. (for those also attending the July workshop, we will see and work with different plants this weekend)

ABOUT THE TEACHERS:

Cheryl Boiko is a community herbalist based in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn and owner of Remedies Herb Shop. She studied The Wise Woman Tradition of Herbal Medicine and her training and experience includes herbal and nutritional consulting, plant identification, herbal medicine making and being on the front lines of her little herbal shop!  Cheryl completed an herbal apprenticeship at Flower Power Herbs & Roots and the advanced immersion program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where she was certified as a Holistic Health Practitioner.

Aemen Bell began her healing journey early, when as a young teen, she did a self supervised 10 day fast and healed the chronic lung condition that 3 doctors had failed to remedy. Since then, she has been taking care of her own body with herbs, diet, and movement. She fell deeper in love with herbs during her extended apprenticeship at Flower Power Herbs and Roots in NYC. What was supposed to be a 1,500 hour certification stretched out to nearly 7,000, as she couldn’t get enough of the wisdom of the herbs and the guidance of her much loved teacher, Lata Kennedy. Since then, she has worked with thousands of people in all health situations to help them make herbs a part of their lives, and heal from chronic and acute  situations. Aemen lives on a mountain, and is also a Kundalini yoga instructor, and a mama.

Clair Belmonte is a recent transplant to Brooklyn by way of Chicago. She discovered a love for crystals shortly after her introduction to hypnotism and healing meditation. By incorporating crystals into her meditation practice and learning about healing methods, Clair has transformed her life and business by aligning her intentions with the universe and her subconscious. Clair frequently incorporates crystal healing and mindset work into her work with private clients.

Lata Chettri-Kennedy has been practicing herbalism in the East Village of Manhattan for over two decades. In 1993, she established Flower Power Herbs and Roots, an herbal apothecary, an herbal hub for NYC. Lata works with various schools and community groups, and is also very active in supporting herbal relief work, from street medics at Occupy to partnering with larger efforts wherever needed. Lata has appeared in publications including the New York Times, NY magazine, and on TV shows including ABC, NBC, Fox News, MTV, Lifetime as well as many foreign publications and television.

Jo Anne Kelly Richards is a Certified Herbalist and a Certified Holistic Health Coach. She practices and teaches The Wise Woman Tradition of Herbal Medicine.  Her four years of herbal medicine training and apprenticeship included field work, plant identification, medicine making, and clinical practice. Jo Anne also completed the Advanced Immersion program  for Holistic Health Counselors at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. You can find Jo Anne sharing the healing wisdom of our local wild plants, and the nourishing properties of her natural soaps and skin care line, with her customers and students, at Remedies Herb Shop, in Brooklyn, NY, where she is currently the lead herbal medicine teacher.

Hilary Schnitz is a 500 hour Yoga Alliance Certified Teacher with a concentration in Hatha yoga. I completed a 200 hour certification in 2014 at Good Yoga and most recently in May of 2018 I graduated from Jaya Yoga Studio in Park Slope, Brooklyn with a 300 hour certification which consisted of Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga and Meditation. My ten year practice and most recent teachings have given me the opportunity to soften and deepen my life experience as well as my offerings as a teacher. My style is strongly focused on breath and body awareness, inviting the student to be more present in the moment by connecting to their physical experience of the practice. Yoga has changed my life. My goal is to help bring this precious and nourishing practice into the hearts of other seekers.

Demitra Vassiliadis is a spiritual astrologer and inspirational speaker who is passionate about helping others understand their unique soul vibration reflected through the prism of spiritual astrology. Her interpretations and infectious enthusiasm for her subject have made her a very popular speaker, workshop leader and personal consultant. Informative, relaxing, and healing weekend! *Amazing*

Posted by Marie on 9th Jul 2017

This weekend retreat was set in the gorgeous Catskills Mountains. The house was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. The salt water pool was refreshing. I learned life-changing information about herbs, fermenting, and first aid that I am now using on a daily basis. Cherie is so smart and wonderful. All the guest speakers and workshops were incredibly insightful. The new moon bonfire ceremony was moving. I will definitely come back for another herbal weekend!
