AMAZING ADAPTOGENS: An Indispensable Category of Plant Allies

Everybody is unique, therefore we each have our own way of dealing with the various stresses we come across throughout our lives.

Our numerous Herbal Allies that are considered "Adaptogens" help us thrive as opposed to simply cope, by increasing our body's resistance to stress.  They enable our bodies to be more resilient by supporting us to "adapt" to emotional, environmental or physical stress factors.

This is an introduction to a few Plant Allies that you might find especially meet your unique needs.

Moon Medicine

Come explore herbal medicine making for the Lunar Year!  With the cosmos as our guide, we will create recipes inspired by the natural rhythms of our solar system.  Each astrological phase is home to a season and reflects what is happening in nature.  In this class, you will learn various medicine making methods and techniques to drop into this experience.  Moon Medicine was created for all levels as a chance to experience hands on herbal learning and fun!  Everyone from beginners to practicing herbalists will walk away with Lunar knowledge to apply in the kitchen.
Natural First Aid Remedies
We’ll visit some of the wild healing plants where they grow in The Catskills.  Join Jo Anne Richards to talk about some of her favorite, effective plant-based first aid remedies, essential elements to include in every home first aid kit, and remedies to keep close at hand when traveling or on the go. We’ll cover remedies to relieve, cuts, scrapes, insect bites, infection, fever, digestive distress and more.

A Fire and Water Ritual with Robin Rose Bennett

As we turn the Wheel of the Year, we are now at Lammas, the midway point between summer solstice and Autumn Equinox. We have begun harvesting the first fruits of our labors, and are hopeful that the full harvest will come in, but we can't be sure yet. The path of love is spacious enough to hold both hope and fear. In this ritual, we will illuminate the opposites that live within us, and then, with the help of fire and water, integrate them together within ourselves, ritually committing to embrace and be embraced by the path of Love.

Healing Plant Walk

Join herbalist Dina Falconi and explore the wild, healing plants of the Catskill Mountains. Learn to identify these plants using basic sensory skills and discover how they are used for food, medicine and pleasure. This walk will include practical information on harvest and preparation. Bring a notepad, camera, and water bottle.

Hands-on Herbal Medicine Making

We'll enjoy a leisurely walk as we learn to recognize, identify and harvest some of the abundant healing plants in the area, many of which grow down in the city too. You'll have time to gather plants that resonate with you and afterwards, we'll return to the house for herbal medicine making! You'll have the option to make either an herbal vinegar or tincture, or both if time permits. (for those also attending the June workshop, we will see and work with different plants this weekend)
